Egg case
Eggs develop within a case called an ootheca.
A hidden egg case can remain after visible adults are removed.
Egg case → nymph → adult → egg cases. There is no pupal stage. Different cockroach species have different development times and harbourage preferences. Diagram is schematic, not to scale. Timing varies with species, temperature, food and local conditions.
What keeps them going?
How they feed
Cockroaches exploit food residues and other organic materials. Water availability strongly influences survival. Kitchen equipment, food debris and leaks can create useful resources close to hiding places.
How they survive
Narrow gaps protect them between periods of activity. Warm, moist locations may support breeding. Cleaning visible surfaces alone can miss food and shelter beneath equipment or within cupboards.
How do they reach your premises?
Incoming goods and packaging can introduce some species. Others use drains, service gaps or connections between units. Identifying the species helps focus the inspection.
Leaks, grease, food residues and equipment voids can support activity. Shared service routes and incoming goods can introduce cockroaches even to well-managed premises.
Signs worth investigating.
- Live insects, especially around warm equipment or after dark.
- Droppings, shed skins or egg cases in sheltered areas.
- Activity around cupboards, sinks, cracks or service penetrations.
A sign is a reason to inspect, not proof of the species or extent of activity.
Control that addresses
the source.
Reduce harbourages and resources while using a targeted treatment and monitoring plan appropriate to the species.
- Identify the species and inspect equipment voids, cupboards, moisture and delivery routes.
- Position monitors to understand the distribution of activity.
- Select targeted baiting or other appropriate treatment for the premises.
- Agree cleaning and repair priorities that support the treatment.
- Recheck activity and address surviving or newly introduced insects.

Fine Enterprises PCO during site treatment. The method for your pest and premises is agreed after assessment.
A scheduled review can be necessary to address hidden activity and reintroduction. Spraying visible insects alone rarely resolves the conditions supporting them.
We agree the preparation, treatment scope and review points for your premises. Method, timing and follow-up depend on the confirmed pest, access and response to treatment.
Why a problem can continue.
- Treating only insects seen on open surfaces.
- Overlooking leaks, grease and residues beneath equipment.
- Applying other sprays around a professional bait programme without advice.
Make it harder to return.
- Remove grease and food residues, including under equipment.
- Fix leaks and inspect incoming packaging.
- Reduce cardboard storage and seal suitable gaps.

Questions we can help with.
Why do I see them after the kitchen is closed?
Many cockroaches are more active in darkness and hide in narrow spaces during the day.
Is bait or spray better?
The choice depends on species, location and site conditions. A coordinated plan is more useful than selecting a product alone.
Can a neighbouring unit be the source?
Shared pipes, ducts or building gaps can connect areas and should be considered during inspection.
